Although both the Inca and the Mayan used very different methods to farm, they both had well thought out strategies. The Mayan farmed by using the slash and burn method and the Inca used a method called Terrace farming. Both civilizations had their crops planted in line so that the rain could water their plants enough so that they will grow.
The Mayan people used the slash and burn method and they mainly harvested corn because it was their main crop.
Slash and burn method is when you slash it, burn it, then plant it.

The Incas invented Terrace farming. The Inca carved steps of flat land up the side of the mountain to create flat land for farming. The terraces also helped to keep rainwater from running off. They reduced erosion. The Inca government built raised aqueducts to carry water to farmlands for irrigation. I think that the Inca were very advanced in their farming methods because they thought if they planted the crops on terrace that when it rains the rain would really water the plants and when the sun would shine down the sun was able to hit all the terrace and crops so that they would all get sun at all angles.
